When an item is on sale, the discount is expressed as a percentage of the original price. To find the saving, multiply the price by the discount rate and divide by 100. Then subtract to get the final price.
| Original price | Discount % | You save | Final price |
|---|---|---|---|
| $40 | 25% | $10 | $30 |
| $120 | 15% | $18 | $102 |

Commission and bonuses
Sales commission is a percentage of the revenue generated. If a salesperson earns 7% commission and closes a $12,000 deal: 7% of 12,000 = $840.
Grades and test scores
Convert a raw score to a percentage by finding what percent the score is of the total marks available. That is a different calculation — use the Percentage Calculator (“X is what percent of Y?” form) or the Fraction to Percentage tool.
