How to Calculate a Tip
A tip is a percentage of the bill total. To find the tip amount, multiply the bill by the tip percentage and divide by 100. This guide covers the formula, common percentages, and the quickest mental shortcuts.
Enter the tip % in the first field and the bill amount in the second.
The tip formula
Example: 20% tip on a $65 bill →
$65 × 20 ÷ 100 = $13.
Total to pay: $65 + $13 = $78.

- 20% tip — double the 10% value. $74 → $7.40 × 2 = $14.80.
